UNABLE TO OPEN/CREATE A FILE errors on XP: Some unzip utilities do not create empty folders, even if they are listed in the zip manifest. Powerdesk Pro 7 is one such app that is known to have this issue. PowerZip and WinZip are both known to handle these folders correctly. Please delete your ZBrush 3.5R2 folder and then use one of those apps to unzip the downloaded file.

Thanks!

3.1 works like a charm

c++ 2008… c++ 2005… etc… installed both, separatly, in any order, with any combinaison !

3.5 3.5r2 failed

Hi, when running zbrush 3.5r2 for the first time (not yet activated) i get this error message.

I can cancel and continue but i did not get this error with the original 3.5 install. If i cancel will i not have zproject working? I would like to install this version without internal errors!

Hi Pilou,

if I may: >>> and anything else that might be applicable beyond those basics.<<<

Would be helpful to know where and when it all goes kaputt;)!

Had something similar: ZBrush could not create a folder (“Tempfiles” within the startup folder). So I created this folder, and the “error” message had been history.
Don’t know if this is hinting something - in your case it is a dll that can not be written/created.
Good luck!

It is file permmision problem. Are you launching ZBrush as administrator? Try right-click directly on ZBrush.exe icon (not on a shortcut to it) and “Run as administrator”.

Yes running as admin and still comes up with same error

I get the “Out of disk space” message each time I try to start 3.5r2.
First, I get the “ding” and Zbrush appears in the taskbar, but nothing else. I’ve found by simply pressing the Alt key the Note “Out of disk space” appears. I click OK and Zbrush runs. I hesitate to say runs ok because there was a forum message in the 3.5 threads that there would be a performance problem in this situation.

The fact that there is not an install program, which usually sorts these things out (like file/folder permissions, etc.) leads me to believe there’s a problem finding an install app. that would be compatible with the activation system.

Same thing here.
Encountered no performance issues so far. The only thing - whenever I change orientatiion/rotation of anything on screen, I get small artifacts.
They disappear if I move the model over them (while creating new ones, obviously).

the “Out of disk space” IS a file permission issue. If you run ZBrush anyway, ZBrush will not have proper access to its files and will not be able to use virtual mem files. The permission issue must be resolved for ZBrush to operate properly.

I have also removed all existing versions of zbrush and re downloaded the file and still get the same error message.

I think we get it that it’s a “permissions” thing. What I (and maybe others) don’t get is how to fix it.

I only have one account (admisitrator). I’ve done the DEP thing – both ways. I’ve gone to each folder/file and set permissions to admisitrator and sharing to “all”.

Maybe telling us what to do, not what it is, would help.

ya i agree, i really dislike this UAC permission BS, its annoying, u can disable but that can cuase other issues down the line.

Whats odd is that with the original 3.5 i had no ‘permission’ issues yet this r2 version now has issues. Surly i would have encountered the same problem with the initial release if its a permission problemo?

Its out of my technical territory but all i will say is i really wanna get back into ZB pronto!

Ive tried everythinng i can think of and always get this error.

I think nobody will deny that - any progress in resolving this issue?

EDIT:

you get the audio, hit first ENTER followed by ALT, and then the “out of disk space” message does not show up - ZBrush starts.

About the “file permission”: saving ZTools, saving Config files - every time ZBrush writes something to disk.
I mean - where is the logic in first finding not enough disk space to launch, and then writing in this “empty space”?

Make a new directory named “vmem” under your zbrush directory.
Also make a new directory named “tempfiles” under your ZStartup directory.
See if that helps.

Ok - where have you been since Friday??

Why?

IT WORKS!!

And now, please: ask for something (most likely you’re far away enough to make granting your wish impossible) - thank you, man!!

I think I ve tried everything but still the Out of memory error persists , i understand that it is a matter of permissions but i have no clue has what to do to make it work …
If this has a workaround it should be specified since zbrush doesnt come with a normal install process.

Specs > Xp x64 200g free space 8g ram

It was mentioned in an earlier post that microsoft protocols werent taken into account if thats the case its very sad … but is it true…

Forget what I said the vmem and tempfiles folder approach WORKS
ITs RUNNING GREAT , someone should make a sticky with this , no problems anymore …
LOVE ZBRUSH

Now, please: anybody from support -

can you confirm that creating those two folders is more then a cosmetic thing?

After the creation of these two folders ZBrush launches as it should (I suppose), and if I look at the reported memory it shows the right amount.

Thanks! Adding the folder “vmem” did the trick. I had already added the tempfiles folder to get past the first error.

In examining the downloaded zip file, there is a vmem folder along with the rest. I wonder why it doesn’t get created when unzipping? All the other folder do.

The “vmem” and “ZStartup/Tempfile” folder are needed and should have been created when the downloaded file was un-zipped. If they have not been created, then you will need to create these manually. Create an empty “vmem” folder in the ZBrush folder and one empty “TempFiles” in the “ZBrush/ZStartup” folder.
