Starting with a high resolution model and using Dynamesh

I have been given a very high resolution human skull model to modify. I understand that using multiple subdivision levels is the typical workflow to build a model in Zbrush but I am starting with a high resolution model. My plan is to work in high resolution throughout the whole modification process and my goal is to modify features of the skull and retain all the details of the original model.

Sometimes when making modifications I rip a hole in the mesh and use Dynamesh to fill the holes using Dynamesh. Can I keep using Dynamesh without loosing the details on the skull? Does Dynamesh degrade the details every time I use it?

Hello @Bill_Clune,

It depends on the level of detail and of the surface area of the mesh. However, it is possible that you will reach a threshhold where Dynamesh can no longer maintain the same level of detail.

In these cases you will have to subdivide your mesh sufficiently, and project the detail from a previous version of the mesh, using one of the various methods for doing so.
