I want to use ZBrush with a main Background Image. In Layer 1 I got my image and material is flat color, is it possible to start with layer 2 or am I have to choose it every single time before I start?

Yes, you will have to select it every time. However, there is another way where you can use a background image and not have to worry about layers. You can use Image Plane plugin in “Texture > Image Plane > Load Image”. You will have to Save and Open the project file (File > Save As) as the bockground won’t save with the ZTool (Tool > Save As).
