Sss ?

Zbrush has the options for SSS, been trying many combinations including options for SSS, lighting / render / material settings. But I can’t find how it’s suppose to work. Do I need an additional Skin Shader just to get it working ?

One thing is that you need to turn on the SSS property for a light other than the first one. The light doesn’t need to be actually turned on, just SSS activated.

Also there’s an SSS project (a sphere) under the DemoProjects tab in Lightbox that should help you get started.

And I’ve uploaded an SSS version of the DemoSoldier which was originally in ZBrush 4 (about 16 MB zip):

For the DemoSoldier project above, look at the way the material is constructed. The SSS blend colors are in the second Shader - click S2 in the material Modifiers.

Thanks. It doesn’t exactly answer my question though. Shall look at what you’ve uploaded.

Had a look at the material, s2 is what I can’t find. In a tutorial the method was copy and paste or something like that, but I don’t seem to have the material to work with. I’m guessing it’s something I need to download, however makes no sense because of all the settings Zbrush already has.

Shouldn’t Zbrush already have the material ?

I just downloaded Marcus’ file and opened it. Go to Material > Modifiers. S2 is right there:

Once you’ve tweaked it, you can save the material to use it anytime you want.
