Square on screen. Noting else.

Been out of the Zbrush loop for a bit. Upgraded to 4R7 today.

When I run the 4R7 all I get is this (Squares, see image) when I do anything (tool, bush, alpha, load tool, project). Got a Mac Pro early 2008, 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB, 14GB memory, running OSX 10.10.2.

Is this just me or is my hardware now to lame for Zbrush? Also was happening on 4R2. Thought I just needed the current version but…

They have a patch out. Might apply to you.

Thanks for the reply. Sadly I am current on all the updates and patches. I will keep pitching at the problem at this end and post anything else that may help.

Um, try this. Change your brush type to Drag Rect. Draw out an object and then hit T for edit mode before anything else.
I posted some files including my StartupMacro if you’re interested.

Thanks Doug. I bit the bullet and did a complete reinstall then restart hoping that it was just me but that did not do it. Tried the Drag Rect then edit mode thing and just got a single big square and it would not switch to edit mode so it looks like it’s something deeper. I am going to tag it to support and see what they say. Thanks for your help. Please do point me to any files/macros as at this stage I am willing to entertain anything. No hurry. I am retired now and doing this more for the love then the profit.

Update:
OK, just got weirder… Importing an .obj works. But starting from a scratch / stock .ZTL, like DemoHead.ZTL or PolySphere.ZTL for example, is a no go. Saving an imported .obj as a .ZTL and using it as an imported tool (.ZTL) works fine. So I am a little freaked now about putting in a bunch of time on a mesh only to find that I may no longer be able to access / work with that mesh because of some glitch I am not understanding yet…

I’ll bet you’re in 2.5 mode and you’re clicking on tools from the lightbox. You have to double click to switch to that tool. Single click will highlight the tool in lightbox but won’t switch to it. In other words you’re not really selecting a different tool.

Open tools through the tool menu instead of Lightbox, or make sure you double click the item in lightbox to open/switch to it.

Ah man. Do I feel like a low res mesh! Forgot all about the 2.5 thing. Never good to stop using a tool for a while and then assume you will remember all those little gotcha things once you start to use it again… Thanks Frog and Doug for schooling this clone…
