Spotlight & Snapshot3d issues

Hey everyone,
So I tried to start working with the new Snapshot 3D tool. When I place any alpha and click on the Snapshot3d button nothing happens. The button lights up orange but no mesh is created. I tried searching all over but I am not able to tind anything. I followed all the instructions online and MANY different videos, but I’m not able to find any solutions… I hope someone can help me and future readers.

I also noticed another issue that I was not able to find an answer. When I place a 3d object in the scene the “center” of the object is off and above the object the mesh for the spotlight only. The center of the object for the mesh orientation is correct but not the spot light.

Error, don’t, doesn’t, work, broken,

Works fine here.

Workflow is as follows:

  1. Load a polymesh 3d tool, enter edit mode. It must be polymesh3d–parametric primitives will not work.
  2. Load a spotlight alpha set from Lightbox. Press Z to activate spotlight.
  3. Select one of the alphas–one of these must be selected and highlighted.
  4. Press Snapshot 3d. The resulting mesh will appear underneath the highlighted alpha. Depending on the active mesh, if that alpha was over another 3d object, it’s possible it is being obscured by that mesh since the active mesh determines the depth of the resulting object. Make sure the alpha is positioned over empty space to avoid confusion.

If this doesn’t work, try it with a different active mesh.

If you still can’t get it to work, there may be an issue with your installation, and it may be necessary to contact support.

Awesome! thank you! So, its solved in your first sentance the the “Parametric Primatives Don’t Work” for the Snapshot 3d. ( the starting simple 3d objects that come with Zbrush).

So… future readers - try exporting OBJ from another program instead of using the Cylinder3d or any other 3d primatives built in Zbrush.

has anyone been able to successfully do this process completly starting in Zbrush without an outside 3d object?

Any polymesh3d mesh will work, created in zbrush or otherwise. So a gizmo primitive, or a dynamesh, or an adaptive skin, etc. In order to make a parametric primitive work, it must first be converted into a polymesh 3d object (tool> make polymesh 3d). You would have to do this to make those work with most other operations in Zbrush anyway. You cant sculpt on a parametric primitive (as opposed to a gizmo primitive).

I am having similar troubles, and not able to take snapshots. I’m on 2020. I’ve been following the video closely. Everything seems to work except for the snapshot. I can duplicate, scale, drag, snap, etc. But when I try to take a shot, no bueno.
