splitting subtool

Hi, please help i have character that has upper body without clothes, is there any other way i can detach his head so i can subdivide it more (i only have 6gb ram) but be able to bake seamless normal map and normal map that has HD details, i already tried to set different polygroup for head and split but there are seams which are present every time i bake normal map and i still don`t have the solution for that and worse there are also very ugly protruding seams that are caused by polygroup split. Thank you very much.
