It happens all the time. I use Zmodeler to make an edge loop, and it makes an X instead. I have to close and open Zbrush every time so that it works. Is there another fix?
It sounds like you are inserting a point into a polygon, where are you clicking exactly?

OH!!!
I see, and Im sorry I didnt catch it at first, its splitting (hence its called Split) your polygon, you want to use Insert, not Split.
Insert allows you to insert single or multiple EdgeLoops.
I see. Usually, split is used in 3D applications to add edge loops. There’s also the command “split loop” in Zbrush which creates an edge loop. Insert does work fine it seems. Although I’m still not sure split is working as intended. Why does it do what I thought it would do someyimes and sometimes it does the X? I select the edge every time, not the poly or point.
Thanks
Im not sure why you are seeing the results you are seeing, but I find it very consistent.
It might behave differently on a triangle Polygon, but Im not sure.
With ZBrush assuming that things from other programs are the same is not always a good idea, ZBrush is wildly different in many ways.
Anyhow, Unless I am mistaken, there are three main types of Split in ZModeler, Edge, Point and Face, and all of them do very similar things.
Insert however is what I use to make new edge loops in the case of using it on an Edge, but if you use it on a Face its a wee bit diferent.
On top of being able to make new edge loops with Split, in the Geometry Palette under EdgeLoop there is even more and wonderful ways of doing this stuff. Definitely something to check out (screw with Displacement!). You use this by hiding geometry and hitting the EdgeLoop button (also GroupLoops is seriously amazing as well, but you dont hide geometry for that). I could go on forever about this because its sort of the main tool set I use when Im playing, something I am usually doing if ZBrush is running.
One question: Where is SplitLoop?
I literally have no idea!
