Special Effects Sculptors?

Hello,

On a thread in the main forum titled "Character :small_orange_diamond: Trarch // Zbrush " there were some images posted of Brian Wade sculpting concepts by Miles Teves. I am a recent graduate with a double Fine Arts major in computer animation and sculpture and was thrilled to see any names of sculptors working in the special effects industry. Like I said, I am a recent graduate who doesnt really have any idea of studios to which I can send portfolios. Does anybody on this forum know any names of studios or sculptors which I can contact for information? Are there any sculptors on this forum that can offer me advise on getting started or have good examples of portfolios?

Here is one of the images I am refering to from the "Character :small_orange_diamond: Trarch // Zbrush " thread.

Hi,
There are probably lots of traditional sculptors that haunt these message boards.
Sadly though, ‘trad’ sculpture is all but dead, and regular, worthwhile work is hard to find.
Many here trad sculpt as a hobby or to hone 3d modeling skills and anatomy understanding, but as you see, . . not many would now recommend it as a profession.

However, most of the skills, knowledge and patience learned from the experience of sculpting, transfers very well to CG modeling. And as the software improves and becomes capable of detailed and realistic modeling the demand for better 3d modelers will increase.
It is a demanding, . but very exciting time to be a sculptor.

I guess thats why I double majored. I agree entirely with the idea of virtual sculptors. I think zbrush is a break through peice of software (duh) that will bridge the gap between academic sculptors and the virtual medium. You’re absolutly right, it is an exciting time.
