Spacing out nanomesh objects

Hi there…

im pretty new to nanomesh - and i was wondering if its possible to determine what quads meshes get added to?

By this i mean - currently a mesh gets added to every quad - but i would like to add one to every 4th quad for example, so there isnt such a high density or ‘nanomesh’

is this possible?

many thanks
N

Hi @nickholl

Check out this Nanomesh refresher by Michael Pavlovich. Also search his channel for a lot more info on nanomesh etc.

Nanomesh gets added by polygroup. You can also adjust distribution sliders to thin out and randomise placement. Also add multiple nanos to a single polygon/polygroup. Lots of flexibility.

Pretty sure you’ll find what you want with Pavmike.

Hello @nickholl

This is as simple as defining Polygroups for your mesh, and changing the target for the Insert Nanomesh function to something that targets those polygons.

For instance, setting the target to “Polygroup” All" would cause the nano to draw out over every polygon in the subtool that has that specific polygroup assigned. Changing it to “Polygroup Island” would draw it out over all of the connected polygons that share the same polygroup assignment, but will stop when it reaches a new polygroup border.

Polygroups can be assigned via the functions in the Polygroups palette. The Mesh Visibility shortcuts will also be useful for isolating polygons for Polygroup assignment. ZModeler has a lot of additional options for targeting and assigning Polygroups to polygons.

Good luck! :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi - yeah Michael also replied to the question I posted on a video of his and suggested a similar route- by creating the checkered poly group option.

It seems like this is probably the best route to take albeit more time consuming than I was hoping.

My hope was that there was a setting that would allow me to achieve this. - maybe in a future update :crossed_fingers:

thanks for your help!

Zmodeler polygroup action has random and checker board modifiers. Might make polygroup assignment easier for what you want
