Spacemonkey Snakelord

[attach=164683]Skin.jpg[/attach] Hi, I thought I would join the fray and start posting, Here are two WIP,s The first, Spacemonkey will hopefully end up looking a bit retro like the old 50’s comicbook covers, the idea is that monkeys have been modified to do the gruntwork in space exploration! After texturing the background will be painted in with a moonscape and a 50’s looking rocket. Also a glass helmet will be added in Maya. The second one the Snakelord can command an army of snakes so I picture him in a field full of snakes, he will be wearing armour. I changed the look of the skin in the concept sketch to more of a snakeskin, I thought it looked to turtle like. Crits or suggestions welcome!

Beautiful work, Jasper… love the space monkey. Been trying a space scene myself and was on the verge of giving up with it, but that scene is exquisite and I feel inspired! Great stuff!

how did you do the scales on his face?

[ATT=164716]5.jpg[/ATT] [ATT=164717]eye close.jpg[/ATT] Thanks for the replies, this is actually my first own post anywhere on the web! so it,s great to get replies so soon, I don’t know why my text goes all over the place and doesn’t stay nicely at the top like in other peoples posts! Anyways, thanks for the kind words Rawsunlight. Nero5150, the scales where done quite simply by painting a mask and then doing a bloat, see the image of the mask below. Also added an other variation of the monkey theme this time more gorilla like! I finished his eye texture but his skin texture needs heaps of wor[ATT=164715]5.jpg[/ATT] k! When i finish these guys I want to try a more cartoony style and see if I can turn a very old illustration I did into 3d.

Love ya spacemonkey hes pretty dam cool :).
Love your illustrations very nice indeed :).
Great works matey :).

Okay, I clearly need to study how to post, my text and pictures are going all over the place! Here’s the old cartoony image I was talking about that I’m trying next!

Poor old party animal
I love it

Wow…the monster and its scales is superb!!! Such fine work!

Very cool stuff. Why the skeleton? for rigging?

Thanks DiscoStu and Solidsnakexxx for the kind remarks! A big reason to start posting for me was to start finishing stuff that has been lying arround far to long… so here’s the first update. My daughter calls him Batzilla because of his ears, He’s an old model, and yes ATVPro the skeleton was meant for rigging, I was planing to make a muscle system but my poor old computer just could not hack it! I used ZBrush to do a whole bunch of Face blendshapes. Mostly using masks and the move tool. I hooked them up to the face in Maya and now I can get almost any expression I want! Next I’ll give the skin a lot more detail in Zbrush (A few nasty scars, maybe a broken tusk and some crooked teeth), then start painting a skin texture and animating. The second part of this post is very different and shows how versatile ZBrush has really become! I had to do some quick digital illustrations for a TV comercial for the Dutch Statelottery in an old masters style. I liked the new plugin Paintstop for it’s natural brushes. I scanned a page in an artbook to get the old looking brown background. I used to do oil portraits and used the same approach digitlly. painting over a warm background to get natural colours. The last quarter of the paintings were finished in photoshop adding cracks and stuff! The background of the guy with the fish was just grabbed of the internet and tweaked a bit as I only had 6 hours a painting. Blends.jpg

Hey Jasper…did you do those hahahaha…wonderful “old paintings” in that commercial??? Very funny and great art indeed. I liked the paintings from the beginning. Machtig mooi man… Painting 5*****
Don’t you have access to something like Corel Painter or Sketchbook pro for things like that? Or Artrage even?

Have you more paintings to share with us?
Get rid of the sculpting move on with the paintings…
(just kidding of course…)
