[Solved] Uneditable Seam/Crease on model, started with Zphere then adaptive skin

Edit:

Solved.

Solutions:

1) Fiddle around again with Zspheres to avoid intersecting geometry

  1. Use the Polish brush to seal away the seams.

Hope this helps others who were in the same position as I was - thanks Wild!

Heya, normally I don’t post a lot, I just lurk. I picked up Zbrush a few years ago (Back when it was around version 2 or 2.5, or something), found it too hard to use, then left it. Now, I got myself a subscription to Digital Tutors, and I’m having a blast learning the program, and now the interface doesn’t seem as daunting.

I’ve tried searching for a solution for problem on these forums and via google, and the closest solution I got was to use the ZSphere Tweaks plugin to help fix the uneditable seams and meshes on models that I get (For the record, I couldn’t get the plugin to work for me).

My problem is this:

I get an uneditable “seam” or “crease” whenever I change my ZSphere Model into an adaptive skin. It’s unnoticeable at lower subdivisions, but after subdividing some times, it becomes more apparent. I can’t smoothen the crease out, even though I’ve tried varying smooth brushes, and smooth modes (From 0 to 7), and it just stays there. There is a ray of light, however, in that I can cover the seam with some material, but when I try to smooth the now covered area, the seam shines through to the top =\

Normally I don’t post my problems, I prefer to search the internet and help forums instead. I’ve tried searching with the “crease”, “seam”, “creases”, “seams”, etc etc keywords, but I’m absolutely stuck.

I’ve uploaded an image as well, to help illustrate my problem.

My first thought was going to be suggesting the polish brush, but after having a closer look at your thumbnail I’m wondering if you might have some inter-penetrating geometry. I’m curious what it looks like at lower levels. Have you checked the polygroups? Put a white material on and show poly frames and see what you get.

Thanks for the quick reply

I never thought of trying the polish tool - but after I did, it “solved” the problem quite well. The seams no longer appeared - however, they would reappear after I tried to smoothen it again. I can probably live with that, but I’m a bit of a perfectionist about this - is it possible to make it so that the seams/creases would smoothen out with using just the smooth tool? If not, it doesn’t matter, as I can put in shapes, smooth, then polish, but I’d just like to know if it’s possible.

Anyway, here are two screen grabs - one with the polish brush, and one with white material (Both have PolyFrame on)

Yes, I believe those pictures prove that you have intersecting geometry. The fix for that is to go back to zspheres and move them around until the mesh they create does not penetrate itself.

Aaahh, ok, thank you very much for your help WildSketch, I’ll start fiddling around again with the Zspheres
