[Solved] GoZ -> Maya opens a new version of Maya every time

Hi,

If I create an object in ZBrush 4r7 (p3) and goZ to Maya, 2015 it will open up Maya and transfer the object across. I can make changes and hit ‘goz’ in Maya to transfer it back - no problem. But when I make changes back in Zbrush and hit Goz again, It will open up a brand new version of Maya, rather than transferring the updated version back.

Am I doing something wrong? I thought it was supposed to seamlessly transfer between the two packages rather than opening up a new version of Maya every time!

Help is appreciated!

Just try to delete the GoZ shelf in Maya and restart Maya.
Another cause: you may have ZBrush set to run as an administrator OR Maya running as an administrator. Both need to be on the same security level (Not running as an administrator is advised).

I’m having this same exact issue with 4r7p3 32 and 64 bit on windows 7 sp1

I did a clean install of 4r7p3 not an update.

I deleted my shelf and have tried force re-installing goZ for maya

help :frowning:

Did you check that both software are not executed as an administrator?

Thank you for the response Totyo.

Yes Ive tried setting both as admin and setting both as not admin. Same result. Ive spent hours messing with it.

This same exact issue also happens on my work computer.

No matter what I try, a new instance of Maya is ALWAYS created everytime I hit GoZ to Maya in Zbrush.

I MAY have found the solution to this after messing with it for many hours.

Running Zbrush and or Maya as administrator didn’t seem to make any difference at first. What made a difference was INSTALLING Maya as an administrator.

I THEN clicked to run Maya as an administrator.

After that, I no longer got any errors when installing GoZ for Maya and only ONE instance of Maya was ever launched when going back and forth between Zbrush and Maya when using goZ for Maya!

I’m not 100% sure that this is what fixed it for me, but it seems like it could be it. Either way my GoZ for Maya FINALLY works again!

I also did a clean install of Zbrush 4r7p3 as administrator too if that makes a difference for anyone else.

yay!

Thanks Eric, that’s useful.

Eric: I’m not sure what fixed the issue, but for sure, if one application is set to run as an administrator and not the other, it can only creates conflicts in different ways. That’s why it is advise to run both without the admin flag. But both with it is also working, as soon as you are not using GoZ with other software.

I just went through this same exact issue with zbrush launching multiple instances of Maya every time I hit GoZ in ZBrush on my work computer.

I was able to fix it. However, Nothing else I have tried has been able to fix this issue. I have tried running both maya and zbrush with admin flag on/off, deleting my shelf in maya ect. Nothing works until I do the follwing steps.

Here are the steps I went through:

  1. Clean install of Maya, installed as Administrator. Set Maya to always run as administrator
1a. Tried to run GoZ at this time but Maya would just freeze up anytime I sent a model to it.
  2. Clean install of zbrush, installed as Administrator. Set Zbrush to always run as administrator
  3. GoZ now worked back and forth between zbrush and Maya!

So now that I have done this on two separate machines I think it’s safe to say that if anyone else runs into this issue; To do a clean install of Zbrush and Maya as Administrator and see if that works for you.

Open Maya, now you can see the GoZbrush shelf in your Maya shelf.

Open Shelf Editor, select GoZbrush then change to edit commands tab, Just add one more line below the first line:
