SolidThinking or Rhino?

Hi all,

I’m sure most people know Rhino, but how about SolidThinking atSolidthinking.com?
What is your opinion? Which one do you prefer?

Thanks

Hey Enter, I have used Rhino, and for nurbs modeling it’s pretty good. If I was buying a program for industrial design, I would drop the 1K dollars on it, but if you want to do animation, save a little longer and buy Maya Complete for 2K)it has plenty of different modeling tools). As for Solid Thinking, I tried the LT version, and It had some intersesting poly tools, but Maya or Wings has these as well, if not better. Are you a student or working?

Hi Sirquadalot,

Yes, I’m a student. Is Maya fun to learn? Is it #1 3d software right now?

Sorry for the long delay, I was on vacation this past week. I loved learning to use Maya. There is a steep learning curve though(very technical, and the manual reads the same way). The biggest hurdle to over come is what you actually want to create with the software package you choose, and then being able to do it. Do plenty of research and demos, before you plop down any serious $$$$ on the software. You should try to find a copy of the book called, “The Art of Maya” which gives a good overview Maya’s tool set, and capabilities(I think it was 60$ last time I checked , but you could get it used.) and get the “PLE” edition of Maya off of Http://www.aliaswavefront.com Any ways Maya is my choice app, next to ZBrush, but as with any tool, the artist must choose the right one for the right job. And I have not found a job yet that Maya could’nt handle. You should check out SoftImage because it’s up there with Maya. The one I have been dying to try out is SideFX’s Houdini, that looks tight from what I have seen. Hope this helps.
