Snapping with DragRect

Hi–

Is there a way to snap to a grid when using DragRect? It will really help me lay out my alphas more precisely.

Thanks!

This is a great question and I was hoping someone will know. (I’m pretty new to Zbrush and have the same type of questions).

I have been wondering if one can at least tell Zbrush to begin a stroke in the dead center of an sub tool or the origin. (A similar question). You would think that since you can command a subtool to go to the origin, you could also set your first brush stroke to begin there. But after watching hours and hours of videos on You Tube. I don’t think you really can and it seems artists just simply turn on PolyFrames and look at the mesh to figure out where the center is.

But that method is useless if the mesh has tons of vertices.

But back to your question, have you tried the other strokes to see if that works for you?

It would be nice if someone made Plug-Ins that addressed our two concerns.

One workflow Idea that I have is that if placing things is important, you first build your basemesh out of ZModeler and when done, leave it low poly to place important things like centered holes or objects. But of course, you can’t use or see Alphas without high divisions so you would still have the problem with Alphas about placing items I guess.

Based on the silence for this question and my scanning the web, I’m assuming there’s no way to snap this way, which is unfortunate. I hadn’t even considered your idea of finding the absolute center of a subtool, but that seems helpful as well.

We can only hope some future update includes these features.

Edit: Perhaps a better question for me, at least, is what are people doing to ensure their alphas are perfectly straight or aligned in a precise way?

Yeah if you look at my posts I sometimes have to answer my own questions.

But… the key is practice and watch tons of youtube videos and you will find a way. If you tried different strokes, then you probably just have to keep trying to place the alpha and undo it until you are happy with it.

Oh, and have you tried Modify Intensity of the Alphas? that helped me.

But as for placing them… it’s tricky.
