Smoothing problem (smoothing on the other side of the mesh unwanted)

Hello, i have a geometry of a tyre, i want to smooth the inside of it, but when i try to the smooth affects also the other side of the mesh (the outer part) which i do not want to, i tried the brush-> automasking->back face auto mask

It didnt help (maybe a little but really almost not noticeable), i played even with the settings in “back face auto mask” but it didnt help either, i also tried to mask the parts before smoothing also didnt help almost at all…

How can i solve this, how to smoth without affecting the other side (of a close mesh)?

MaskByPolygroups, set at 100. Or try hiding parts you don’t want touched.

if you don’t have polygroups then activate backface masking in the brush palette while having the smooth brush selected

Thank you, that helped! Activate the backface masking WHILE holding shift (selected smooth brush), that was the mistake i did i didnt hold shift down while activating backface masking.

Wouldnt found that out myself, thanks for advice!
