Skull: Bone structure study

Hey guys and gals. I’ve been a Zbrush lurker for awhile now and I have always been too afraid to post my lackluster work. I am fairly new to Zbrush, maybe a few months of trial an error(mostly error). I am studying anatomy right now and I figured I’d give a skull a go through Zbrush. I am pretty happy with the outcome, it still needs a few tweaks I’m sure.

This one was my first run. It’s interesting looking but the anatomy is way off in the jaw and nasal cavity areas.

Any suggestions or critisim is most welcome. Thanks for your time!

The cheek bone doesn’t seem right : there should be a hole in it …
Also, as far as I know : the lower teeth seem too wide compared to the upper teeth : the upper teeth are a bit wider than the lower teeth on the side, and in the front the upper teeth go further than the lower teeth and they also somewhat cover the lower teeth …
Wish I had enough anatomical knowledge to give good advice, but I don’t, so the best advice I can give you is to make sure you have plenty of references to study. :+1:

That’s so funny. I’ve looked at so many pictures of skulls and I have never noticed the little holes in the cheekbones. Thanks a lot!

I most certainly ain’t an anatomy expert, but i think the ramus (the middle upward portion of the mandible) should be more concave / less boxy.

Otherwise, cool job! :+1:

Got to try doing one myself one of these days.
How did you do the teeth? Are they separate subtools or sculpted in?

The zygomatic arches should create a hollow and are also the widest part of the skull, not the cranium.

Thanks for the feedback! Very helpful…

I did do all the teeth as separate sub tools…I think it looks better that way
