Sketchbook - Abdul Ali

Hey guys, longtime lurker, first time poster.

Here are a couple of recent sculpts. The first guy is a longterm project I’ve been working on in my sparetime in the last 2 months. The second guy is just a quickie I did today using a zsphere.

Love the muscular details!
WOW!!!

Khalavi- Thank you.

brilliant sculpting, man :+1:

love the anatomy, but the knees are way big, maybe should scale them down a bit. other than that wonderful

its very nice sculpt !
its seems that the bottom area ( legs ) or the upper area ( torso ) dont fit to the rest of the body .
it seems like the torso very thin or the legs are to big but thats my opinion .
anyway keep going , i wonder how it will looks finally .

Leshiy3d- Thank you

Mihkelangelo - I’ll rework that. A friend of mine had the same thing to say about them.

smeagol - Your critique maybe on spot as I had the legs even larger before  . The other reason why they might look so large is maybe because of the pose. here he is with his legs closed.

Really great definition and character. Not your average body type.

You’re not going to like this, but the knees are still way big.
I’m only saying this because you’re skill is exceptional, the face is great, the upper body is awesome.

I used to sculpt my ankles and feet way big when I first started out. In my mind they looked right but I was so off.

It felt uncomfortable but when I made them half the size I ‘felt’ they should be - I was on model. I’d say your knees and legs need to be made another 20 percent smaller, or somewhere around that.

Very nice work but I gotta agree - those legs are huge, which makes him look almost Hulk-like.

Keep poting

AVTPro- Thank you
bLawless- Thank you for the feedback. After fiddling around with his legs for a while I just couldn’t tell anymore. I’ve made his legs quite a bit smaller and reworked the knees a bit. Hope he looks better.
mindrot- Done and done. Thanks

Very good sculpt. The muscle formation is pretty good. But id have too agree ya legs are too big.
Keep up the good work :):).

Great sculpting, and great anatomy! And, I do have to agree about the legs: Too big, and they should taper more. The ankles are just too large! Unless you’re going for a stylized look, that is. :+1:

ABDUL Buddy! Sorry it’s taken so long to write to you. Great job on the details of your guy so far… I love what you’ve done with his torso and arms!
Like others have said, the legs still need more work. The shins feel a bit too long compared to his thighs and his legs overall look way too big compared to his torso, makes his torso look tiny. Unless this is the style you are going for, I’d suggest taking a step back and looking over your proportions again, maybe even step down a few subdivisions so your details don’t distract you. Have at him with the flat colour shader applied so you are just looking at the silhouette. Things should jump out at you then. Also, keep looking at that freedom of teach sculpt you got at home
Great to see some new work from you, I hope Hatch doesn’t keep you so busy that you can’t finish this guy! Talk to you later. (Oh another thing to maybe look at is the shape of his skull… right now it feels more box like than is should. Remember to look for the widest part of the skull at the back of the head.)

Joel my man, thanks so much for the feedback. I know exactly what you mean with the legs. When I originally posted this guy, I had worked on him far too long and just couldn’t see the proportions anymore. I’ve been caught at work for the last few weeks and I’ve barely looked at him so now i can see the big issue with the legs. I didn’t think they were that big when I was working on him but now they look godawful HUGE. I’ll definitely give the flat colour shading a spin, it should do me some good. As for the freedom of teach model, the biggest problem I have with it is that it sits 3 inches away from my face, haha. I need to set it up far away enough that I can actually see the overall proportions. Hopefully when I get some down time I’ll get back to this guy and fix all these issues (including the skull).

As for hatch, talk about busy. We miss you over here man, especially the animators. You should hear the crying they do all the time  Anyways man, it’s 1:30 over here and i think i’m gonna head home. Talk to you soon man

ps. Where in God’s name is your character thread already?
