simple render question

Hey, I’m trying to figure out how to render a ‘turntable’ of a model into one image, like most of the images seen here on the forums, like this. Is this done using the canvas and just drawing and rotating the same model? How do you get the rotations just right, I’ve seen non-90 degree angles on these (meaning holding shift wont work), how do you position it just right? There are many images far too large to fit inside a screen, how would that work??

any help is appreciated!

It’s done using ZBrush 3’s Movie palette. Here’s a thread with settings and tips that will help you: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=55980

no, that’s for a turntable movie, not putting it all into a single image, I want the turntable frames side by side like in my link

What you’re talking about are simple screen captures put together into 1 image using an external image editor like photoshop. with a alt+left click you centre your model very easily and then just turn it and hold down shift and it will stay in the right spot…

but yet in some of those images there are precise, non-90 degree angle intervals, some going at 45 degrees, for example. Is there a way to make it exact or is it just a rough guess that looks good enough?

chwaga,

Document > ZApplink Properties (towards the bottom) Here you can choose which views you’d like to have exported to PS or any other image editing program.

Note:Make sure to set your Target App after clicking the lg. ZAplink option at the top of the DOCUMENT options. (Choose your image editing software)

You have the ability to pick front, which automatically chooses the back as well. When this occurs click CLEAR TO and deselect back (or keep it). Same goes for the left and right. Cust1 & 2 give the option to manually set a 3 quarter, Worms eye, or any other view. (Whatever makes you happy)

Once done click >Make Character Sheet & it will export each set up image as a sheet in for example photoshop. The nice thing is that it places the model/sketch on a separate layer from the doc. background.

Hopefully this helps

and you can always follow aurick’s suggestion - make a movie and do a screen capture from that

This is easy to do inside ZBrush:

  1. Set up your document to be the size you want by adjusting the height and width in the Document palette and pressing Document>Resize. You will probably need to switch off the ‘Pro’ button which restricts changes to ‘proportional’.
  2. Move the Transform palette to a tray so that it stays open. This will make numerical adjustments easy.
  3. Draw your model on the canvas. Don’t enter Edit mode, instead hit the Move button. The ‘Gyro’ will appear.
  4. You can move your model around the canvas by dragging the gray circle of the gyro. However, for numerical adjustments you can use the Transform>Info sliders. Enter ‘0’ in the X Component slider and your model will be placed on the left edge of the canvas (probably half off the canvas as the position depends on the model’s pivot point - usually the center of the model). The numerals are pixels, so you can use this slider to decide exactly how many pixels you want between the shots of your model.
  5. Rotation can be done in the same way. Switch on the Rotate button (the gyro should still show) and the Transform>Info sliders will now represent degrees. Enter ‘0’ in all three sliders to get your model to face forwards. Use the Y Component slider to adjust the way the model faces right to left.
  6. If you want to adjust the model’s scale you can switch on Scale (with the gyro showing). Click and drag up or down outside the gyro to adjust the scale.
  7. Once you are happy with the first position, press Transform>Snapshot (the ‘camera’ button near the top of the Transform palette) or use the hotkey Shift+S. The makes a copy of your model in its current position.
  8. Switch to Move and move your model to the next position.
