Silo, modo & zbrush updates

I just stop by the Silo web site. What is going on there is looking good. The new 2.0 might by something to think about.

Modo is also having an update. The only thing that interest me is the new UVmapping tool. Cut and Drag.

I am having some trouble UVmapping my models made in Amorphium 3 due to the amount of “polys”, forgive me if I used the wrong term. I am hoping I can bring them into Zbrush when I buy it in to weeks when my tax return comes in. They slow UVmapper down and Wings3d just can not handle them. When I do get them mapped (via luck with UVmapper) and then textured with Deep Paint 3D, getting things matched up back in Amorphium 3 is hit or miss. Sometimes what works once doesn’t work again.

It is driving me nuts…

I was wondering if anyone would like to play with one of my models made with A3. I would be more then happy to send it to them as a .obj

All I ask is you tell me what trouble it gave you in zbrush, if any and, then send it back to me so I can see if I can open it in Deep Paint 3d and then get everything to work back in A3. This would be a big help to see if Zbrush will fix the problems I am having.

I was hoping I could use A3 to box model (well hybrid box modeling, they call it Tin) and then bring into Zbrush and go to town, but I would like to bring the model back into A3 just in case I would want to render there.

I have a funny feeling once I have the full version of Zbrush A3 is going to be unused, but I would really hate not to give the models I have done there the life I have visoned for them.

I am going to keep and eye on Silo. It is looking good.

why not try out wings3d’s new uv tools…they are pretty simple to use and learn and work very well and wings is free.

Wings 3D rocks!

Have you tried UVLayout from Headus.com? I always hated UV mapping…until UV layout. It was actually enjoyable. The app has a few more features to be added before it’s production ready, but it’s already in my budget.:sunglasses: :+1: :+1:

Amorphium 3 models sometimes open in Wings3d, but highly detailed models will not. I get the not responding bull crap.

Thanks I am giving this a shot right now!

Cripes!!!

There is no way I am spending $250.00 dollars on UVlayout. I think that is too much money just to map UVs.

The forum claims that is speed you can create UV maps more then makes up for the price.

Maybe it is my inexperience that makes me think this.

Is UVmapping really this much of a pain when working with more then one app. to get things done the way you want? Or is it just me?

If you do not need to edit the map separately in another 2D program then the UV Tool in XSI are more than capable to suit your needs.

Only if you need to edit the color maps in PS outside of XSI then you are a bit at a loss as the automatic algorithms in XSI leave you with a UV Puzzle when you look at them in another app.

You can send me a mesh at lemonnado AT gmail.com. I’ll apply the two automatic UV modes in ZBrush and mail the meshes back. I never unwrapped a model in my life… I always use ZBrush.

Cheers
Lemo

I always use ZBrush.

Pilou

I found poseray awhile back. It alows you to render common 3d files in povray. I did not notice that it also does simple UV maps. If I export out as a LWO from A3 then uvmap it with poseray then save out as a obj I can use Deep Paint 3D to texture then get everthing back into A3.
here is a sample

Why it has to be a Lightwave file export I do not understand but that is the only way it works.

I hope Lemonnado was able to open the file I sent him. Another fellow zbrusher that has been very helpful opened the file only to find it a mess. I downloaded the demo of Modo. All my Amorphium files opened perfect in Modo.

I would hate to have to rethink my next purchase just to keep using my favorite method of box modeling with A3.

I put alot of effort in learning zbrush I would hate to let it go.

I only have one word to say and I am too polite to say it here!
Rotten triangles!

Thank you lemmonnado. You have always been a help to me. You deserve a Zbrush friendly user award.

I found a way to get Amorphium 3 to stop triangulating everything and function with quads only! Freaking thing! For a program that is so easy to model with they sure made it a pain in the butt to function with anything else.

I admit uvlayout is alittle pricey, but you can use it for free in beta and give it a go.

I am tryng it, but must wait untill the 11th to get my key code. I argued the price on their forum, stating with all the other apps that can map uvs the price seams high, but I will admit here if it is the only way around my problem I would end up buying it.

The real reason for my problem is my newbie mistake and triangulation. I fixed it.
Uv mapping my new models is not so harsh on the programs i was using.

To bad all my old models are now trigarbage if I intend to bring them into Zbrush.
