Silo anyone?

I’m just curious: how many of you here use Silo for their low poly/base mesh modeling needs?

I do use it and love it, but sadly Nevercenter ( makers of Silo) are more silent with every year and that makes me think they might not have a big enough user base.

I dropped it because I do not want to bet my time on a product which seems to seize to exist any moment. There is no direct evidence for that, but the updates are rare, communication is virtually non existent, the mood on the forum more unhappy than happy, I decided to take cover and stay away. What a shame… nice modeling app. Recently the product stopped to work all together as a previously unpublished timer elapsed. Caught me on the wrong foot. Since then it’s deleted. Still on the shelve, but not in the work flow any longer.

was that a beta version? if so, then there was an update available for it.

but yes, what you mentioned is the reason why I started this thread. it’s really a shame, because I think it’s a fantastic app for low poly modeling with even a bit of low level sculpting for blocking out stages.
I’d hate to see it vanish completely. Still in my workflow though, since it still does really well what I need it for.

I use Silo too. And I think it’s a fantastic app. I see people complaining about lack of updates, but honestly, to me Silo is perfect the way it is. There’s nothing more to add, it does exactly what I need it to do.

There’s some cases when softwares are doing everything well, and the company obligates programmers to show some work. So they invente things that are really unecessary… At least on my opinion. I hate when perfect softwares start to add useless features, and becomer heavier to the system, more complex to use and understand and more expensive.

It’s because of this I stopped to use Maya, and I’m using Blender and Silo… I use Maya only when I’m forced to. But Blender and Silo have my heart now.

I´m using Silo as well. For me its essential, i´m faster than with any other modeler - this tool is underrated, a pity that the development starves!

Its “reduced to the max”-directive was, what made this app so good.
I didnt stumble over any app that could mess with Silo - handling, architecture, speed, pipeline-fitness and, above all, the price are unmatched so far. At least for me.

It could be very useful if it stopped crashing every ten minutes or so.

I’m angry at nevercenter, they are such asses, you can’t even say that their software is buggy without being banned with the “you know why” (that’s really waht it says) reason.

I would absolutely discourage anyone to buy their software for the sole reason of their attitude toward consumers.

I still use it too. The crashes are pretty annoying and there are a few features I would like to see added, but overall it’s just so fast and intuitive I keep going back. I wish Nevercenter would speak up or just sell it off to a company that can further develop the program.

I would not mind if the darn thing would work pretty much flawless. Heck… like ZB 3.5 would be fine. But it’s less predictable. And with the development stalled… I’m not going to get further into it. I model with C4D and MoI/Rhino.
Good enough for what I do. -Zero- Crashes!

I use silo all the time for my base meshes. It’s not the only modeler I use but it is the one I like the most. I don’t have the best system in the world but I hardly experience any crashes using it and it’s always struck me as odd that other people seem to do so. I have to wonder how much of it is user error and how much of it is related to features I may not use on a day to day basis.

Yeah, I don’t know why it crashes out on me sometimes. It seems to happen when I try to go too fast doing something—there is the initial freeze and then I wave bye-bye. I just got into the habit of saving a LOT. Still love the app.

I’m still using it, but less and less. It won’t handle the poly counts I want these days without crashing. I love the interface however.

No reason to believe there will ever be another release as they don’t even seem to be working on the beta update any more.

How long have we been begging for the numerical rotate to be fixed? Years.

Then they ask us what we want and have us make a list and vote on a special page. Then they abandon it and ignore it completely.

No integrity on the part of the Nevercenter. Zero communication. When they went from constant updates and contact to none, it became obvious what is going on. They clearly can’t answer questions for some reason, my guess being they don’t want to lie so they don’t say anything.

What ever happened to their Linux port? I remember hearing it was in development, and according to a post by an admin, or somebody involved in the compay, it was running very well in linux.

Did it ever come out? It’s not in their online store. It would be nice to have a light alternative to maya for traditional modeling inside of linux. I hate blender

The point is that the Silo Team dont have showed with videos that the last "update"that works fine, no video to show us a complete workflow without crashes. I will love to see a more or less complete sesion from you in a video. Will be great.:+1:
