No fun in this one.
Wrote a thread here about Siggraph.Thank you for liking it.
However, still something inside me, have to get out.
I wrote what I thought was one of the best things, Mr Alon’s artistry.
Now I would like to point out what I found distasteful and still sticks with me.
Have been a Corporate Whore ( CW) and have been a “lackey”.You can have fun doing both.
Siggraph, for the exhibitors, was a time of stress. Build the booth, light it.hook the wires, music too loud, graphics can’t be seen, product logo. How much to sell it for, long lines for the t-shirts, hats, candy. Will we pay for the trip? What does the next guy have? No time for lunch.
Stress, capital S.
A lot of things get forgotten.
Including manners.
What I observed and I did not go there looking for ,were some of the biggest bullies I have ever seen.
Where does the head of a booth get the idea that the “little people” working with him are garbage?
Where does a vendor, who is a success, get off talking to his people like they are filth?
When did the “manager”,forget to manage and proceed to dictate.
At more than one booth after I observed these kind of things, I would go back at a later time and comment on it to the helpless victim. I was informed that this was quite common and went on all the time, not just at shows.
What irritated me the most, was that the worst ones, the meanest ones would suddenly, on a dime change their personality when a customer approached.
Big smiles, pat on back, “glad to see you”.
As I mentioned I am new to Graphics, I have seen the best of human kind here with the help and generousity shown to me and others.
Was I witness to the worst?
