Siggraph indigestion

No fun in this one.
Wrote a thread here about Siggraph.Thank you for liking it.
However, still something inside me, have to get out.

I wrote what I thought was one of the best things, Mr Alon’s artistry.

Now I would like to point out what I found distasteful and still sticks with me.

Have been a Corporate Whore ( CW) and have been a “lackey”.You can have fun doing both.
Siggraph, for the exhibitors, was a time of stress. Build the booth, light it.hook the wires, music too loud, graphics can’t be seen, product logo. How much to sell it for, long lines for the t-shirts, hats, candy. Will we pay for the trip? What does the next guy have? No time for lunch.
Stress, capital S.
A lot of things get forgotten.
Including manners.
What I observed and I did not go there looking for ,were some of the biggest bullies I have ever seen.
Where does the head of a booth get the idea that the “little people” working with him are garbage?
Where does a vendor, who is a success, get off talking to his people like they are filth?
When did the “manager”,forget to manage and proceed to dictate.

At more than one booth after I observed these kind of things, I would go back at a later time and comment on it to the helpless victim. I was informed that this was quite common and went on all the time, not just at shows.
What irritated me the most, was that the worst ones, the meanest ones would suddenly, on a dime change their personality when a customer approached.
Big smiles, pat on back, “glad to see you”.
As I mentioned I am new to Graphics, I have seen the best of human kind here with the help and generousity shown to me and others.

Was I witness to the worst?

Sadly, this is true in any workplace, not just in trade shows etc. It’s childish bullying schoolyard mentality, and the main reason I work for myself, as in the past I’ve gave each and every bullying boss a piece of my mind, and been promptly sacked for it!

It goes further than that though, the same schoolyard mentality seems to apply to whole nations. Best name no names though eh!?

Best.

Yeah, I agree, you get all sorts in every layer of civilisation. Personally I’m quite new to the whole forum-thing. After a few weeks visiting, reading, and posting I noticed that a forum too is just another civilisation with the same sort of people on it as in real life or, as Angelstein so truly remarked, in the schoolyard. I have to say that if ZCentral was a school, I’d gladly have gone to it!
Too bad that you apparently had to prick through the more ugly ones on Siggraph, Bicc. Forget those and focus on the good and inspirational people you saw: they will last longer.

It did seem like some torment was gripping you for your writeup yesterday. This new information goes some way to explain your reserved tones.

Whoever the manager may be, a letter from a concerned stranger such as yourself may not fall upon deaf ears, and if it does, then you can always try his boss. In any event, and by whatever method you choose, find your own peace again somehow.

Good conduct is not a necessity for many, just a luxury. A foreign word for few. Kindness and cooperation last. Bad conduct and agression is a clear sign of mental and social deficiencies. I stay away from bad conduct, and it has always paid out.

Those types inevitably are mid level. You will generally find that those at that top are not like that and would love to know about anything their managers do that would jeapordize valuable employees and customers. These bully’s think they are heading for the top but they seldom make it. Their attitude destroys them when it becomes apparent to the real leadership. Another group of bullies are young wanna bees and new independant business owners who don’t realize it just makes them look like a horses ass. The old Napolean syndrome. Success seldom comes to these jerks for more than a fleeting instant. Some do eventualy grow up. The richest most powerful people I have met are also the most decent giving people I’ve met. Often they get labeled unfairly based on the actions of underlings that they have no knowledge of.

sorry

‘The richest most powerful people I have met are also the most decent giving people I’ve met’

Not taking a dig or anything mate, but in my own experience it’s always been the complete and utter opposite!

No worries Bicc…what goes around comes around 10fold they say…so they’ll get theirs.

no sense wasting energy on things one cannot change, instead spend it taking pics with the new camera…ya did get it right?

now ya made me want a key chain hahaa dohhhh.

For aminuts:
