Hello. I am new to ZBRUSH. The Smooth Brush stops working when I work on a project every time. I have to reload the tool and it starts working for a short time but then stops working again. All other brushes continue to work. When I hit shift I can confirm that it is turning into the Smooth brush turning from red to blue. Does any one have any advice? I have seen other posts of people having this issue but no answer has ever been given. I am working in the latest version of Zbrush on Windows 10.

Actually, there’s not much information here but this is not a commonly reported user problem. You will probably need to contact ZBrush Support for us to investigate whatever you’re experiencing.
First though, since you say you’re new to the program I’ll just go over some normal behavior you might be seeing. The denser the mesh in terms of polycount the less effect the Smooth brush will have on it at the default settings. On a sufficiently dense mesh you may not be able to see any impact at all with the naked eye.
If the problem is a result of a change in the session that has been made to the Smooth brush or any brush, you can reset the brush to the default settings at the bottom of the Brush palette with either “Reset Current Brush” or “Reset All Brushes”. This will hopefully save you from having to restart the program, but remember that you have to hold down Shift to make changes to the active smoothing brush.
If that does not correct whatever problem you’re experiencing, then the issue is likely coming from outside of your ZBrush session. Input device issues, software or hardware conflicts, or a damaged ZBrush installation are all possible.
Thank you so much for your quick response. I tried resetting the brush and that did not fix it. I agree that this is probably some sort of external issue. I will troubleshoot with ZBrush support. Thank you so much for your help.
So it looks like there are some compatibility issues with older tablets. I was using an old Intuos 4 tablet. I went out and bought a new Intuos Pro and the problem vanished.
