SHIFT = Smooth brush no longer working

HI

I have been using Zbrush 2 and for the last year 3 and have had no issues until now. For some reason when i am using any brush (standard, inflate etc) and try to hold shift to switch back to smooth brush it no longer works.

When i hold shift the active brush in the brush pallet switches to the smoothci brush and the brush also changes from red to blue a it should but when i try and smooth nothing at all happens.

If i manually change to the smooth brush it works perfectly.

I have tried initializing, updating to 3.1 which didn’t make a difference, then reinstalling ands starting form scratch with 3 but nothing seems to fix the problem.

If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated as you can undestand my fustration when trying to model with out this function.

Try Shift+Click on the Smooth brush. It’s possible that at some point you Shift+Clicked on a different brush, which changes that to the one that will be activated by Shift.

I had tried that, and it seems like the smooth brush is selected as when i press shift the active brush in the brush pallet switches to being the smooth brush, but sill does nothing. its very odd

You also might want to try renaming your UICustom.cfg to see if maybe a setting in there somehow caused the problem. I can’t think how it might have, but I’m being thorough.

Also, if you’ve installed any plugins try disabling them. One of them might be causing a conflict. To disable plugins, double-click to launch ZBrush and then immediately hold Shift until the app finishes launching.
