Sharp, Angular Impressions

hello, I’m looking for a way I can cut a deep flat impression into a hipoly model using any of the ZTools or just the standard Zadd/sub tools. I need a more controlled way to make sharp, angular pits in armor plating. I realize I could make the armor a separate mesh and then hit the crease button but the model is both organic and mechanical in appearance and it is all one skin. I know Zbrush is primarily used to be an organic modeler so it’s been kind of hard to find more industrial design types of techniques. Any help is much appreciated:)

I know this is all common sense to some of you, just thought I’d share the wealth with ZBrush sculpting newbies like myself.

A friend showed me how to achieve hardedged sculpting effects without the creasing feature using the Layer option in the transform pallete in edit mode. It’s possible to soften and harden the edges of the strokes using high and low Zsub values and high and low focal shift values. Positive focal shift values will give you a softer sculping edge when using any of the editing tools and the negative values will give you a harder edge. Higher Zsub values will give you a harder edge as well as a deeper depression in the polygons, lower values result in softer edges. So my point is that the Zadd/sub values add another layer of detail characteristic to the way the polygons are pushed and pulled.

Once you’ve created your cut, you can also sharpen the edge even more by using the Pinch brush.
