Also apparent in Normal Map
VD Map was exported with Smooth UV on
Normal Map was exported with Smooth UV off
Theoretically that means it should be visible in one or the other, not both. Or it has nothing to do with UV smoothing.

Does increasing the map size improve the issue? Also, have you examined the mesh at high rez to make certain the banding isn’t apparent in the mesh’s surface? Surface distortion is something that happens.

the bands appear at the frequency of the base mesh edge loops. The high res model looks great in the viewport.
These maps are at 4k
I just output 8k with smooth on - looks like the smooth was the culprit
