Serious bugs and crashes with curve surface brush

The curve surface brush casues crashes. Occasionally it works, but it usually either crashes or does not allow me to manipulate the curves at all.

Anyone else getting constant crashes with it?

Are you using the latest release, ZBrush 4R4 P2?

Yes, I’m using the latest patch. I have some bugs that pop up that no one else seems to have because of another program that I have installed on my computer - Daz Studio. (I know this because when I uninstalled it I no longer had those bugs).

BUt rather than start uninstalling programs I wanted to see if anyone else had the same problem.

When I say buggy - I mean that the curve tube brush crashes Zbrush about half the time I use it. I even tried it with just a dynamesh sphere (in case the other figure was too dificult for it ) it still crashes.

Well I just uninstalled the program that was causing another bug (and that bug IS fixed now), but I still keep crashing when I use the curve surface brush.

I was thinking maybe it was due to hotkeys ( I changed some of the curve hotkeys…) but now I cannot restore my original hotkeys - the “restore” button under hotkeys is greyed out…

Is there a place to get the standard hotkey setup? (other than me reinstalling zbrush).

Maybe someone has a “default hot key list” they can post? I’m not sure about mine.

Goes in ‘ZBrush 4R4/ZStartup/HotKeys’ folder. This is the default file.

Thanks, for the file. I actually found that I had that same file in my ‘ZBrush 4R4/ZStartup/HotKeys’ folder,

but then I found that my zbrush goes to a folder on users public for the startup. That file was NOT the same. I switched that file for the one you gave me and it worked to load that one. But my restore hotkeys is still greyed out.

On the curve brush front - it does seem to be crashing less often and I found that the ability to move the curves is a bit finicky (I can have a blue cursor and yet it only moves the curve about half the time - the other half it draws a new curve.)

I put in a ticket to support.

I am probably going to reinstall everything - windows, zbrush, etc. I have been considering buying an SSD drive for a while. I guess now is a good time. Buy a new drive and do a clean install of everything. My computer has gone through beta hell with various software, and I had an old trust tablet that I installed which I still suspect those old drivers are messing with my wacom tablet…

The folder in Users/Public is for any custom hotkey configurations you make and not the default ones. Your Restore HotKeys button is probably grayed out because you don’t have any custom hotkey configurations loaded. If you just want the default hotkeys, then delete the file in your ‘Users/Public/Public Documents/ZBrushData/ZStartup/Hotkeys’ folder.

Thanks I did not know that.

I do have my own custom hot key set up, that was why I wanted to switch, but perhaps I did not put them in the right place… I don’t know. But I do have my own set up and if I load the file you gave me I have the default ones.

But it does not seem to fix my problem.

But thanks for helping me!

In case anyone else is having the same problem.

I talked with support.

It seems my zbrush was corrupted. Either from installing while my anti-virus program was running or adding too many items into the zstartup folder.

They suggested a re install of zbrush.

I got a new SSD drive and reinstalled windows and zbrush. Took care of a bunch of other problems with my system. So far so good.
