Send me your cubes!

I’m writing a .obj parser, and I want to test it with some simple files from a variety of applications.

So if you could be so kind as to create a simple cube with just a few faces (say 4 per side), and then export it and mail the .obj file to me I would really appreciate it.

Off the top of my head, if I could collect some simple .obj file from the following applications I’d appreciate it.

xsi
max
maya
lightwave
c4d
modo 1
modo 2
hexagon

I have silo, zbrush, rhino and wings3d so that’s why they’re not on the list.

Please send to me at billrobertson42 (a) yahoo (dot) com

Thank you very much.

Hi Bill,

Do you still need that cube? I can TRY to make it in XSI -I’m that useless but good intended ;)-

Just one question… .obj parser? uhhhhh… this is where my knowlege ends

Take care Bill

Hi thanks Elcarno. Yes, if you can make a cube in XSI, and then export it in a .obj file I would appreciate it a lot.

Parser is just a fancy term for a program that reads a certain file format.

BTW, I have the code done, and I have made it into a Gelato plugin so it can read .obj files directly. I will be releasing that, for free, soon, so your help will benefit others. :+1:

I will send to you a beautiful Cube 3D made with the marvelous free Anim8Or
Center on the 0,0,0 and 100100100 size with 4 little faces by face
But something I don’t understand
Each these programm export in OBJ so normaly they must (if they are good coded) create a same 3D volume reading by any Obj translators!

hey bill,

here’s a mac lightwave 8.5 cube. in lw, it’s 1 meter square with 4 faces (quads) per side. couldn’t email you for some reason. link should work but it’s a mac zip. i’ll post the raw obj if you can’t unzip.

Cheers!

Pete

[edit removed link. bill shoot me a note if you want it again…]

Thank you Frenchy and Pete. I also received a lightwave 9, and modo 202 cube from another generous individual (I’m not sure if you want me to post your name or not so out of respect for your privacy I won’t)

So that leaves the following apps…

max
maya
c4d
modo 1
hexagon

The reason that I want to test is that all application’s exporters are not the same. For example, if you look on the Silo boards you’ll see a few threads about Silo having trouble with lightwave obj files.

Thanks again.

Hexagon on the way.

just realized mine wasn’t uv’d. you got one? lightwave i mean…

Yours was a different version than the other LW one, so it can’t hurt to have another. Especially since lightwave is one of the apps that I’m worried about.

I had the first version built last week for linux and windows, but I’ve been chained to my desk at work, so I haven’t been able to button up the examples until tonight. Here’s my example that shows displacement. Look familar?

Too bad I don’t know anything about rending.

I should get the release out this weekend as well as the testing with your samples.

Thanks.

max8 obj file on the way

Thank you everybody.

I still need to run those tests, but I couldn’t wait to release it any more.

I hope you find it useful.

missed this. still need maya 6, carrara 5?
Sorry to be late:cry:

I have my freebee carerra, but a maya example would be great.

Honestly, I’m not even sure how to do anything in carerra (it took me 5 min to figure out how to exit w/o killing it), so if you could send a quickie sample from there too I would appreciate that as well.

done.
Need anything else, yell out

Thanks for the help. As far as what else?

Try it I guess.

shoudln’t all obj be the same ?

oops! probably shoulda mentioned mine was a mac file too! sadly i can’t test it out. mac + ati…
