Hi artists,
I just got the demo of Zbrush and i’m stuck with an problem, when i’m editing the object somethimes it’s snapping and clone itselfs… My question is, how can i select the model so i can edit again? Thanks!
Hi Benjamin and welcome aboard! If by chance you happen to drop your model while you are editing it never fear. You will find it in the TOOL pallete complete with the last editing that you did to it. Just hit CTRL-N to clear the canvas and select your model from the tool pallet (you should be able to see it there in one of the little windows) and drag it out onto the workspace then enter edit mode again (press T on the keyboard) and you’re ready to go.
Thanks! it’s working!
hmmz, now i can’t select my model anymore
Benjamin, you may be trying to use one of the 2D brushes. When you change the tool to a 2D brush, it snapshots the tool to the canvas. On this page at the top right is a link to the Quick Links; they are a must when you first start out and will just about answer all your questions. If not, try us again with a little more detail of what you are doing…
As Wenna pointed out, Benjamin, you should start with the quicklinks…A lot of the questions you have will be answered there… That is the BEST resource to begin learning ZBrush…!
Thx for the advice ppl, i really like the program i think i gonna buy the complete version before 1.5 is coming out and it’s costing 400 bux
Speaking of QuickLinks, this is the one that answers your question about Why Can’t I Edit My Object Anymore?
I’m sorry I don’t get it (probably because my bad English) It’s saying you have to take a snapshot for re-editing your model. When I have the 3d (sphere) tool selecting it’s just take an snapshot of the sphere… I’m really confused about that. And I know there is a simple explanation for that to re-editing your model. (Now your thinking, god damn newbies ) Now when I stuck with a problem I just make a new model hehe
This I’m working now on:
Thanks in advance.

Thanks , but the problem is it didn’t snap it, so I can’t create a new figure.

Have you tried the script?
We can but lead you to the water and perhaps even pour it down your throat but you’ll have to swallow it yourself.
When you are working in ZBrush, you will always be in one of three modes.
Draw mode is what you use for painting, using all of the different brushes. The only button that will be lit in the Transform palette is the one that looks like a “+” sign.
Transform mode is when you have one of the buttons next to the “+” sign pressed. This creates a gyro around your object that you can use to move, scale or rotate it depending on which Transform button you have pressed. While in Transform mode, you can press the Snapshot button (it looks like a camera, and is below the Transform>Move button) to drop a copy of your tool onto the canvas as pixols while still keeping the original in Transform mode. This is handy for making multiple instances of an object on the canvas.
Edit mode is used for modeling. You can enter and leave that mode by pressing the button below the “+” symbol. It looks like a polygon with four points. While in Edit mode, you can sculpt and paint your model to your heart’s content. However, when you leave Edit mode the object will be dropped (snapshot) to the canvas and converted to pixols. You will also leave edit mode if you change layers, change tools, save your document, and a couple of other things.
Whenever an object is snapshot to the canvas (converted to pixols), a copy of it remains in the Tool palette for the remainder of your ZBrush session. The allows you to draw more copies of it on the canvas later. You cannot, however, select anything that has already been snapshot to the canvas. Once it’s there, the only ways to get rid of it are the Eraser tool, clearing the layer, or Document>Undo. Once you have removed it using one of those methods, you can select the object from the tool palette and draw it again on the canvas or continue to model it.
Please remember that a tool will not save with a document. If you want to save a particular tool that you have created during a session, you have to use the Tool>Inventory>Save button before you shut ZBrush down.
Thanks for your help everyone, I really appreciate that.
I’m trying to model sebulba now, here is a wip:
what do you think as one of my first models?
My english isnt good either and I can’t understand some of the instruction.
The tools isn’t for modeller. Most of them are for canvas which that are fine for my project but modelling is also needed.
I have noticed numberous complaints by ZBrush users about saving object problem. Pixologic might need to reconsider to modify some of the tool boxes for modeller to read it better.
