Sectioning A Large Model For 3D Printing

Hello folks. I recently joined this forum and I am looking to improve my approach to cutting up a large model for 3D printing.

I searched through the Questions & Troubleshooting forum, but I didn’t turn up anything useful. If my question was answered in a previous thread I apologize.

I am using Zbrush 4R6 to cut up a 48 inch model derived from a 3D scan.

My current process is to dynamesh the model at 2000 and then duplicate and cut the model into subtool sections using the trim curve brush. I find this somewhat laborious, since I have to make a cut and then repeat that exact cut in the opposite direction on the duplicate. I can’t move either piece until I have made both cuts or the cut is not consistent.
I am wondering if there is a better way.

I know one can use the slice curve brush to create new polygroup sections and then split them into subtools. That method hasn’t worked for me, because dynameshing to close holes in the model parts after splitting resulted in the closed holes being concave rather than flat. I had the same result with the close holes button.

I am very new to Zbrush and 3D modeling in general, but what I have seen so far is very interesting.

Any advice on improving my approach would be very welcome.
