so im looking to upgrade my machine (3.2 ghz xeon dual 2 core processors, 4gb ram, 1900xt card) ive looked into the ram side of it which would benefit zbrush and other programs, but wot would happen if i put a second 1900xt in the comp, i wanted the 4870’s x2 but one there not mac compatible yet, and even if they were the crossfire isnt mac supported lol annoyin. so im just lookin to put another card in along side my other one, would this help with grpahic software at all like c4d etc…
Additional /More powerful graphics cards tend to have limited impact on cpu based rendering applications. Graphic cards primarily assist in real time rendering, so you might be able to preview and navigate more complex scenes with lots of objects and active textures in the preview windows more quickly, or preview real time DX shaders more quickly, if this was a problem for you before. But as far as actual polycounts or render times, this would have no impact unless your software has gpu assist capability.
As far as Zbrush goes, it wouldn’t make a lick of difference. Zbrush is entirely CPU/Ram driven.
Dunno how zbrush is implemented, but if undo’s are saved on disk, then a ultra fast 10000+ rpm hard drive like a Velociraptor might see things speed up too. But don’t raid drives… I hear zbrush doesn’t like that. Plus it might help memory paging speeds.
