That said, I was a huge Captain Blood years ago, so this project looks exciting!
Perhaps you can make an open-source game from it, so people can add their own aliens in the universe. This game can be downloaded for free or an online type of game, and everybody can contribute and expand it. Then it will never be finished, always expand with new life-forms to discover.
In order for people to create their own type of alien, some sort of an ‘alien creator’ should be programmed, with endless choices of faces, eyes, noses, colors, textures, etc. Then it will be someone’s personal alien, and he/she can communicate with other people/aliens.
This game can become a world-wide hype. I am just dreaming with you, but it can work…
Perhaps you should rename and alter it in some ways due to license issues.
It could also turn a brilliant remake into a shabby disaster.

Danny, it’s exactely what i want to do, a never ending game with infinities of universes (each universe has a large number of hosted planets).
When you have the coordinates of a planet, you begin to talk with the alien but you don’t know if the alien is an another player like you or an alien coming from the game !
It means that aliens coming from the game are helping you to solve the game (the big story), but can chat and talk with other players to exchange knowledge, coordinates of other hosted planets (the little story).
I dream of a kind of intergalactical facebook this alien avatars, places to talk
My remake of Captain Blood could be a mix of adventure game and social network to meet friends in a strange futurist world with strange avatars.

It is a great idea. But think about giving the player the possibility to create their own character. Here at ZBrush Central we are creative people, but normally very few folks on the web can make their own 3D content, so giving people control over the looks and characteristics of their own Alien could be a very attractive feature of your game.
