seams only appear from affar in maya

hi guys, i have a decimated mesh from zbrush brought into maya for rendering with textures and my uv seams show up strangely. the closer i render i cant see the seams but the further from my character i render the more apparant the seams are. in the viewport wen showing texture on my model theres no seams vidible and in zbrush there are also no seams on the model, anyone know wats going on? thank you, heres a render from maya where u can see the seams on the back of the head, legs, arms

That’s no seam. It is the crack between his cheeks.

But seriously. It sounds like you may have anti-aliasing turned on in Maya, which could cause the render behaviour you are seeing. It might be possible to fix it in ZBrush by extending the UV map borders.

If you made your textures in ZBrush using polypainting you can increase Tool > UV Map > UV Map Border and then generate another texture with Tool > Texture > New From PolyPaint. This should allow Maya to pickup skin colored values when anti-aliasing, instead of the black color ( I assume ) that surrounds your texture.

It could also be that your UVs in maya are smoothed while in ZBrush they are not, or vice versa. Though I would have thought seams would then be apparent at all render distances.

Don’t know to much about Maya so I hope someone else will chip in.

haha ur a funny man :+1: thanks for ur response, the uv map borders did the trick thanks! i have to alter my uv map tho cos my uv pieces are too close together >_< cheers buddy! and yeh it is strange that wen im closer to the model the seams are less apparant or not visible at all

If you take your texture map into photoshop and fill the empty UV areas with a skin color, that might suffice. Could save you from redoing the UVs. Just a thought.

Did you try rendering with anti-aliasing turned off on the texture in Maya? I was curious if that was it.

once agn youved saved the day TVeyes. i changed the filter type on my textures from quadratic filter to off and the seams disapeared, i think thats turning anti aliasing off? not sure. but thanks agn! u saved me a lot of time :+1:

Thanks. Good to know it was something shader related. Now you don’t need to redo those UVs

Your model is turning out quite good.

Why is that guyz underwear so large?
Should be smaller, tighter, and perhaps even more
see through. Somebody please back me up on this!

Otherwise it’s a great model.
