Sea Monster

Hi guys! My name is Fabrizio, i’m an italian 3D sculptor living in the most crazy and chaotic city of the world, Tokyo! Lol! Now i’m in Hollywood for some work and since I got some spare time in the evenings, I decided to sculpt this beast. Done with a Dual Opteron 4 Ghz, 7 GB Ram dual channel and a Quadro FX 4000. Started from a few Zspheres and detailed it in aproximately 2 hours. For now it’s near 3 million polys. Needs a lot of refining and detail but I think that’s pretty cool so far
I’m making the seven sea monsters in my free time, i’ll post them in about a month. (At least I hope so :P).
I hope you enjoy this monster and if you have comments or questions, feel free to ask anything you want!
Oh, and congratulations to all the Zbrush users, I saw some really awesome creatures!

P.S. Dagon (ocean divinity)Fish Monster.JPG coming soon!

Dude, not wanting to be a drag…if that thing is 3 million…you should really start from cages (maybe even silo topology tool) and take a look at mesh point distribution. Either way…looks scary enough :D.

A dual opteron 4Ghz? Is that both processors speed added?
the highest uni core is 2.6 i think and the new dual cores dont even go that high. If your not using it already get x64 version of 2003 or xp and you’ll see a brutal increase in performance. If your ram and board are NUMA standarts that is. You should take a look at ur zbrush mem settings cause what it reports on top is kinda weird for 7 Gig machine…wich in itself is an odd number to have on a dual proc setup…but hey I’m up for anything.

Keep us posted.

With that you can remake The lord of the Rings
I love your nickname
Pilou

Haha, lol for my nick!

Yes, it’s a dual 2.2. Actually, a lot of programs act kinda weird with all this ram boards so I eventually de-activate 4 gigs and work with 3.
Although you’re damn right, Zbrush sometimes cranks the hell out.
I tried to leave only 1 gb or ram, but maybe he doesn’t like so much the dual channel boards.
Usually I work with a Mac system (Dual G5 2.5 ghz, 2 gb ram).
I’ll try to figure out this problem.
I’ll also post the new creatures (if I have time i’ll texture them) as soon as I get more free time! Best!

Weird, maybe try 2 Gb’s on each bank/processor, usually is very stable at that.
You happen to know wich motherboard ur using…tyan maybe? If you had NUMA capability, the handling would improve.
Keep the rest of the series coming.

 Okk, i’ll try that then!
Motherboard it’s a Tyan’s Thunder K8W.
It’s the first time I try it and I usually get some little problems when working with huge resolutions meshes.
I’ll follow you’re advice and try to work on the 2 gb ram stuff!
You will soon see the other beasts!
