SDiv Slider Active When in SculptHD?

I noticed that when using Sculpt HD the regular Sdiv slider is active…

I was wondering what the purpose of it is and what does the Sdiv value represent?

Hi @wrender8 ,

HD Geo is a way to exceed the traditional subdivision limits for the purpose of creating ultra fine detail. It has significant limitations and is meant to be used in addition to but not as a replacement for traditional subdivision. HD Geo can only be used for native rendering or export in a displacement map. IT is always preferable to be able to optimize your mesh to work within the traditional 100 million poly per subtool limits. Activating HD geo will place limits on what can be further done with the mesh.

Once HD Geo subdivision has been added to a tool it can no longer be subdivided further by traditional means. You can still change traditional subD levels, but can only access HD geo subD levels on the traditional subD level they were created on.

If you would like to remove HD Geo from the mesh, use the Tool> Clone feature to create a new instance of it in the Tool menu. The previous instance will still have the traditional subD levels but not the HD.

That is all very informative! Thank-you.

However I was wondering why when Sculpt HD is active the Sdiv slider becomes active but in a different way. Ie the value of SDiv is different from the actually real Sdiv level and also different than the SculptHD Subdiv level.

Aka what does this new Sdiv value represent when Sculpt HD is on?
