Hello. I am very new to zbrush and the entire digital sculpting realm, and I am working with the trial version of zbrush 4 on mac os 10.6.8. I’m finding taking up the medium to be pretty daunting…which is why I fell in love with Sculptris. I was very excited about being able to build those models so easily and then, as I grow to understand it, move them to zbrush for refinement. I sincerely appreciate any help I can find here from anyone, as it has been quite difficult to find answers. That being said…
I have built some models in sculptris, but when I import them to zbrush, they arrive looking faceted with a distorted surface texture. If I try to sub divide further, I get a message saying that I am at the max poly level. The model looks horrible, so I really cannot use it if I cannot remedy this problem. is there a way to get the model to import looking better without any other programs? I noticed that areas that have a lower polycount in sculptris look worse then those at higher polycounts, when imported, but even the high poly count areas like the face still look bad in zbrush. I have included two screen shots.
So… I read somewhere that increasing the compact memory under preferences might help, so I did that. That allowed me to subdivide to 3 levels, which smoothed things out a bit, but not enough. Some of the tools still looked weird when drawing on the model.
I am also having a problem with GOZ. I cannot get higher subdivision models from zbrush back to sculptris. If I GoZ a model from Sculptris to Zbrush and divide, I cannot GoZ back to sculptris with anything other then the original imported level. When it does import back to sculptris (at the lowest level), it arrives there with blown out areas (the higher poly areas). I was under the impression that the two programs are compatible, but I cannot seem to work with sculptris files in zbrush in any meaningful way. I have searched around in forums and google, and I cannot find any information that applies to the mac version. The same issues occur if I try exporting/importing as .obj files. As a matter of fact, I found a tutorial on Digital Tutors which showed seemless movement via GoZ from Sculptris to Zbrush and back. The model looked great going both directions. I assume they were working with the PC version… so, I wonder if the mac version is the culprit.
p.s. I also have the same issues if I manually export and import as .obj
Thanks again to anyone for any assistance!
