Sculptris Pro Workflow

Sculptris Pro topic. So I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately on my ZBrush workflow and how my creativity works with it. I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m what I’d call a “medium detail” type of artist. What I mean by that is when I start working on a sculpt, I tend to work on both the basic forms and the medium level details right away. I don’t like to start out with just the basic forms and then slowly build up the detail as I go. When I go that more traditional route, somehow I tend to lose that creative drive, or the original idea that I had for how the piece should look. I’ve found that I work more efficiently the quicker that I get the idea out of my head and into 3D.

I tend to quickly get a rough basic shape first, and then jump to the medium details, then I’ll ZRemesh, subdivide, project, and then go back and start re-adjusting the basic forms before moving onto the higher details. That being said, for the past few years I’ve been using Dynamesh for that first medium detail process, because I just want to sculpt without having to worry about the technicalities at that stage. As you can guess with that route the poly count gets a bit high and can be a pain to work with.

That’s where Sculptris Pro comes in. When Sculptris Pro first came out, I really liked it but didn’t use it much, but the other day I started thinking about replacing the Dynamesh part of my process with Sculptris Pro. So basically Sculptris Pro, then ZRemesh, Subdivide, Project, etc. Even though I took a ton of art classes in high school, then went to college for it, and spend hours upon hours starting with basic forms first, the creative side of my brain just doesn’t seem to work that way. Anybody else have that issue or use Sculptris Pro a lot in their workflow in the same way?(For 3D printing and CNC, not video games, etc.)
