Sculpting subtool with overlapping subtools

Hello all, I’m noticing that while sculpting an active subtool that has overlapping inactive subtool the brush kind of ignores the geometry behind that inactive subtool. Only way I’ve notice to aid that is by turning transparency on, which in some cases isn’t ideal for me as I end up not seeing the full project correctly and sometimes just end up overlapping the inactive subtool with geometry. Any settings that can help me with this? Or even reduce the transparency amount when active for a better view?
Thanks!

Hi @davorm!

Visible inactive subtools will still contribute to the surface information that many brushes respond to, while not actually affecting anything but the selected subtool. This is useful in many cases, for instance drawing out a curve stroke that conforms to the surface of multiple visible subtools, while still leaving them as separate subtools with all the benefits that comes with.

If you’d like to remove the influence of a subtool, you can:

  1. Turn its visibility off in the subtool list.
  2. Switch on Solo Mode
  3. Turn on Ghost Transparency, allowing you to still see the subtool while removing its influence.

The transparency of Ghost Transparency can be adjusted in Preferences > Draw, via the Trans Depth, Front Opacity, and Back Opacity sliders. If you would like these changes to persist at the next startup, you must store the config in Preferences> Config > Store Config.

Good luck! :slightly_smiling_face:
