Sculpting in uv space?

Hello everyone,

Is it possible to sculpt in uv space? so the brush alpha doesn’t get stretched when sculpting on a spherical/cylindrical model, I’ve tried to use uv master to flatten the model then sculpt on it, but the sculpting disappear once I unflatten the model,

thank you,

hi all,

I would also like to know if it is possible to translate UV information to mesh information.

Please excuse the Blender screenshots (I’m on my mac, no access to my PC for a few days).

So, lets we used UV master to flatten a cylinder

Is it possible to use this UV info, as an XYZ (just XY in this case) mesh? Is there a way for the software to do this?

The application I have in mind is, to get a flattened UV mesh, then extrude thickness
UV to XYZ.pngpurpose.png

then sculpt on this extruded mesh.

The purpose is to have scanned 3d data from a real life object (say of a comlpex curved surface) then flatten this curved surface, give it thickness, sculpt detail, 3D print this detail in flexible resin, then lay the print on top of the original scanned object.

Any advice would be appreciated.

The alternative solution in ZBrush, which I haven’t investigated, is after the getting the flattened UV, to use the flattened UV as an alpha mask to project the flattened shape onto a flat mesh.

Thanks and regards,
Weisern
