Hey Massimo!

First, I think you should post more of them…
I will be emailing you later today my time, but upfront I will say that you have a great ‘feel’ for stone…(And I have been working stone since I was 8 years old, and am confident in saying that I yield to nobody in terms of knowledge of Lapidary, or stone…)
There is a story in the book, ‘Jade, Stone Of Heaven’, which tells the tale of an invasion that is a historical fact in the history of China. In the story, the conqueror calls for the best stone carver in the Kingdom, since one of the spoils of war is a wonderful piece of raw jade…
When the carver is brought in, the new ruler tells him that he wants him to carve the Imperial Palace, or something out of it…
In the presence of the court, the carver says, ‘No…I can’t do that…’

The lords gathered around him immediately call for him to be put to death, in return for his insult to the ruler and the court. The ruler however, being wiser than the bozos around him, and having proper respect for the artist, restrains the fury, merely asking of the craftsman, ‘Why cannot you do this?’

The artist says, ‘Because what the stone has in it is a pair of Imperial Dragons, playing beside the Celestial Pool…’

‘Go, and do your work…’ says the ruler…

Time passes, and the artist is announced at court. He presents an amazing carving, depicting all that he had suggested, following which he asks the ruler to put out his hand…

Into the palm, he pours a small pile of stone dust…All that it was necessary to remove, which does not cover the palm of the ruler…

The moral? The true artist does not IMPOSE upon the stone…He merely removes what does not belong, and frees what lies within.

This is NOT just a pretty story. In the time I have worked stone, (47 years…!), I have learned to see that form within, and to restrain the desire to impose a false vision upon the rock…

I sense that you see those forms as well…

(And post MORE of the photos you sent me…!)

I like more the stone and … I take advantage from this post for say hello to the my best zfriends: Max, Pilou and Michael !!!

Cool! Most of my newest work I have not shot yet, but I think I can come up with some pics from my BFA show exhibition that took place in the Spring of 2000. I have to find them on my hardrive first! lol! I have some stuff to do tonight first, but I should be able to post them some time tonight (eastern standard time). Thank’s

Sorry for the delay. Here’s some sculptures I created for my BFA review in 2000. Sorry for the low quality, but the camera I had at the time was like 1 mega pixel :frowning: . I have included a pic of my self in the upper left corner to give some sense of scale. (I’m 6ft tall).
