Sculpted rocks and loss of detail !

I’ve recently joined the Digital Tutors but at the present its a demo account. I’ve run one of the tutorial videos and created some ground work ready for a figure to stand on.

The tutorial worked well with one exception which I’ve also posted there this morning but still waiting for a response so forgive posting here but I may get a faster reply.

The issue is after creating a cylinder and subDiv that to 800K poly’s. I’ve sculpted the rocks and I’m supposed remove the bottom half for the ground to sit on a tempered cylinder. When I try to remove the bottom half it warns set to level1 subdue to delete vertices or delete lower levels and try again. Now, both of these work but only 1 is working correctly.

After setting level 1 and deleting the bottom of the cylinder when I return to level 4 I have also lost all the extreme detail in those rocks but have no idea why.

Deleting lower levels works but I would rather keep these for now.

The easiest thing to do would be to duplicate your rock subtool.

Then you can delete the lower subdivisions in one and keep them in the other.

Use the eye icon to turn whichever one you want on or off.

Ok, but I don’t understand why or how this helps, can you please elaborate for me.

mask the tool at its highest level before doing the delete

I was not sure how to do that but finally.

Masking worked after a little thought and trials I managed it.
