Scuffy Hair, trees, aliens and other trendy subjects

Thought I would post a bulk update of some of the projects I have been working on. I’ve been posting everything on my website www.sterlingsheehy.com but lets face it no one ever really goes to it. I get much better feedback here. So let me know your thoughts.

cheers,

Sterling

Alien King Zbrush Sculpt - rough

[vv]37447847[/vv]
This is a zbrush sculpt of the alien king I designed for Space Chimps. He was cut but I resurrected him to appease my curiosity. It is a work in progress.

Alien Tree Zbrush Sculpt

[vv]36937082[/vv]
A quick tree sculpt I made in Zbrush. The base of the tree was made using zsphears and dynamesh but all the branches, leaves and grass were made with FiberMesh.

Scuffy Hair Zbrush Fibermesh Test

[vv]36811340[/vv]
This is a quick sculpt I made in ZBrush using DynaMesh for the face and Fibermesh for all of the hair elements. It took about three hours of work to complete. I was mainly interested in exploring Fibermesh and seeing what I could do with it.

Altan Mouru Hair Test
[vv]36321871[/vv]
This is my second hair sculpting attempt using ZBrush 42Rb and the new FirberMesh settings. I’m struggling a little to find a setting that will work well for cartoony character. Most of the hair ends up looking too relistic or too much llike straw. I believe painting will be the solution but for now I think this is an ok start.

Red headed bloke hair test

[vv]36215381[/vv]
Testing Zbrush 4R2b FiberMesh for the first time. I made this fellow so I could test out the new hair features.

ammoniteboy cool fiber/mesh work.

Have you been able to make the leaf cape shown in Alien King semi-transparent?

No I haven’t done anything like that just yet. It’s all just polypaint at the moment. As I move forward on it I’ll probably and a fake SSS paint layer to lighten up the tips though. On the cartoony stuff I find it’s sometimes better to keep things a little on the fake side.

Great sculpts - like your cartoony style a lot!

Love your work. I came across them while exploring the turntable gallery today. A happy find for me! Nicely posed also!
