screen/canvas size lag

CPU: Opteron 146 2ghz
RAM: 2GB ECC
Video: Geforce 7600GT
Monitor 1920x1200

i am getting bad lag while navigating around the model even on a low res poly with only 1000 triangles. my monitor resolution is 1920 x 1200 and document size is 1400 x 1050. i get less lag on a monitor res of 1280x1024 and doc size of 800x600. but that is too little space to work on.

i had this lag on zb2, i thought it would be fixed on zb3 but its not. i can sculpt fast but navigation is real slow. its even slower when i zoom in.

my zb3 settings:

compact mem 1700
doc undo 4
tool undo 4
maxPolyPerMesh 10

multidraw off multirender off
quickanddirtyedit on
qTransThreshold 2

i have render/preview shadow/ObjShadow 0

any suggestions ?

The lag is caused by the larger document size, and a lot less on monitor resolution size. This is not a bug.
ZB3 fills the horizontal workspace on my system. (1280x) I thought it should be enough res to work on.

Hope that helps. :stuck_out_tongue:

thanks for the reply, but changing monitor res is not an option for me, i need that space for other applications mostly.

i did the test on both my hd monitor and and old crt monitor.

on 1920x1200 score is:

single thread 6.772
multi thread 6.829

-0.8% so multi threading not recommended.

now this gets interesting, switch to my old monitor and at 1280x1024 resolution, test results are:

single thread 5.69
multi thread 5.478

0.3% percent increase so multi thread recommended.

my processor didnt change and document size is constant in the tests, the only thing changing was desktop resolution. so you can see where the problem is.

besides the tests, i can visibly see a performance increase when using old monitor in lower res. i get perfect speed if i use 1024x768 resolution. i feel like i need to go back to that crappy monitor and get a crappy pc with poor spec to make zbrush run faster.

any suggestions anyone, or is there no sollution ?

Lower your canvas size or get a faster computer, those would be your opitions.

In my case I am using a dual Monitor at 2560 x 1024

Quad-Core Intel Xeon
4 GB of memory
Quadro FX 1500 as a single view.

But my Zbrush interface is huge the icons are about 4 times bigger, i am assuming is bacause the resolution. Is there a way to make the interface smaller?

Thank you so much in advance, this is driving me crazy.

just create a smaller canvas and then zoom in (zoom the document, not the tool) so it fills your entire screen. your model will have jaggy edges, but viewport navigation moves at lightspeed (depending on how small you make your canvas). personally, i don’t mind a little lag and keep my canvas pretty large, but there are certainly options if you can’t stand the lag.
