Hi, I use C4D, using R20 now, and trying to coordinate my scale units , using inches between c4D and ZB, for example, my model in C4D is X .421, Y .883, Z, 1.361, this model is merged from ZB, importing to C4D at X 142.648, Y 280.192, Z 431 794, I always make sure that my import units are in inches, please tell me what I am doing wrong-also is the QuickScaler_v1.0_1 reliable for my current Zbrush version? thanks, i want to make sure before I install, Craig
Hi Craig!
There’s a lot I don’t know about your process here. I’m afraid you would have to elaborate if you want more than general advice.
As far as general advice:
-
Sort out your workflow between Zbrush and your target program first in terms of import/export scale before trying to work advanced scale elements into the mix. If you can’t consistently import/export between the two programs without issue, it’s going to make it difficult to troubleshoot anything else you try to do. If you have to match the scale in an external scene, setting this up should be the first thing you do in any project.
-
Remember that the worldspace can vary between programs. Every program kind of does its own thing.
-
Understand that by default, or when importing into a tool like the polymesh star, Zbrush will scale/recenter an imported obj automatically in order to make it perform well in the Zbrush worldspace. The offset/scale amount required to restore the obj to its original size/position on export is recorded in Tool > Export, and it will export at its original size/position. But, if you keep changing the size/offset again in Zbrush, say to correct what you see as an error in the scale/position, it will differ from the original obj on export.
-
When you get all of that sorted and can work back and forth confidently, then you can start using Scale Master to set up your scene scale and units. If you have a problem at that point, at least then you know it’s an issue with that particular aspect of the process.
thank you, this is very helpful, CZ
