Saving and opening

I’m new to zbrush. I recently save a file as a zdoc, i reopened it to find that it was in 2.5D and i couldnt edit it. im just wondering if there was a way to get it back into 3D so i could work on it more.

Hey there,

If you want to save your ZTools you have to save through the Tool shelf/save as and not through Document save as.

Hope that helps.

What that means is to save it using the “save as” command on the far right side of the screen instead of the drop down “document” menu. The drop down “document” menu is like saving a still picture and it will not be 3D. When you use the “save as” command on the right side, it is totally different and saves the sculpt as a “ztl” file or ztool. You would then load it back into ZB using the “load tool” command on the right side menu. That way it will work like you want it to since the item is still 3D and editable.

I know it took me a while to figure this out too as the commands look the same but are not. In fact, there are several things you will find in ZB that are different like that. Another is “move”, “scale” and “rotate” at the top menu and also on the right side vertical menu. Their names are the same, but work different.
