Safe Internet

There is a lot of good information in this post: Advertiser’s Trojans, And I thought it was a good idea to bring it back.

So, if anyone as more to add or any comments on what I post here, please feel free.

Here are the main programs/websites that I use to help protect my computer and my family from the dark side of the internet:

(MS Windows)
Free:
AdAware - Spyware removal

ZoneAlarm - Firewall

House Call - On-Line virus checker

NetPurity - Parental Control - Blocks questionable websites

The Google Toolbar - Popup Blocker and more

I think it would be great to have a quick list of recommended software/websites of this sorts on ZBC. Of course, there are many sites which post this info and more, so if you want to add those links, please do.

Great list,

Here is my additions…

Avant Browser - Google toolbar integrated, and quick buttons to disable java, active X and scripts… Some reason Cookies are still burried in internet options… Has great POP-UP blocker also (probably from google integrated tool bar)… also responds to gestures for back-button and forward button… and is Tabbed to keep desk top and taskbar tidy  loads pages realy fast also  http://www.avantbrowser.com/

I use both adaware and spybot, they are constantly catching things the other missed, so I just use both

I use housecall also, Great software… Especial if you are helping out a friend or client  can get it from internet , it downloads in just a couple minuets, and is up-to date  plus FREE!!!

Here is the Email Client I use also… has some features to block spam, leave messages on internet…
it is very fast, and a small profile that is skinnable… lots of neat and useful features…PLus if you have messenger installed, it wont open it every time you check your mail…it is also frendly to multiple desktops, there is a little notification when you recieve mail that appears on all desktops,

I recommend Spybot - search and destroy:

This can be used alongside Ad-Aware to clean out spyware.
