RYSHER's sketchbook. Anatomy studying.

Hello everyone!
I’m new to Zbrush. I started to learn it 2.5 months ago. So, this is my first model - human skull(male). I saw lots of zbrush-made skulls, but most of them were not hollow. So, i decided that my model will be anatomicaly correct and hollow inside. The first two pictures are final model. The rest are w.i.p.

I’m planning to create whole sceleton and some busts and characters in future. Through the sclupting process i’m focusing on anatomy, always looking for exact proportions and shapes.

I started this thread thinking that somebody might be interested in learning the anatomy for Zbrush purposes. So, we could discuss some questions or exchange some good references and etc.

Everyone please feel free to comment.

P.S. I’m russian, so please excuse me for some english mistakes

Great work. Very realistic and detailed. But i suggest to don´t abuse with the symmetry specially with in the fine detailing such as holes and cracks in the skull. Maybe some tooth variance will give even more realistic looking too. But it´s a great study work!:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:
And thanks a lot for sharing this little breask down process!!

[][-][4Z4R])))) -thanks for your comment!

This is my another sculpt that i’ve made recently. I like Kyle Green’s tutorial “Sculpting a realistic bust” and i decided to create some oldguy too. I didn’t used any photo-references(my mistake, i think). I just looked at Kyle’s result and tried to create something close to it. Wanted to learn some technics, especially at the wrinkles part.
However any comments and critics are welcome!:+1:

Also, i wanted to create some kind of “Making of” video. Mostly for learn the “Movie” tools in Zbrush.

Youtube really decreased the quality of the video. So, you probably won’t see some minor detailes, such as small wrinkles…

I feel a bit bad for you. Not that you haven’t done a goob job but I’ve seen the tutorial you have followed pretty closely and I think it’s just horrible anatomy wise and you should forget everything thought in there. Your face part looks a bit flat as it does in the tutorial. Ryan Kingslien for the win.

Thanks , MAX_POWER!
I like Ryan Kingslien’s videos. The scull that i created was based on Ryan’s videos.
I would say that the “Old man” tutorial is not about the anatomy. Mostly it’s about some technics such as sculpting wrinkles and workflow. Anyway it was useful in some things.
Now i want to focus on some another bust that would be correct in anatomical aspect.

Hey there everyone!
Guys, what do you recommend to improve anatomy skills? I’ve finished the course “Anatomy of the face for artists” by Ryan Kingslien and created my own head with skull and muscules. Now i want to create some really realistic bust of some actor. Jackie Chan may be
I see two ways of how to approach to this work:

  1. I have to get many good photos of an actor. Use them as references and start to make the model. Then i’ll adjust the model by looking at photos untill i’ll get some good result.
  2. I have to learn the anatomy in depth. All the forms of the head and face. Do a few anatomical correct heads of none-existing men. Only after that i should start to make some real human head sculpture.

I feel that the first way seems to be better. Because i’m going to make the model of man who is exist in real life. I suppose the workflow is all about “look at reference -> look at the model -> do adjustment->repeat”.

The second way, in my opinion, fits more in case if i would wanted to create some anatomical correct head without having any references.

What do you think, guys? Every reply would be appreciated!:+1:

Hello everyone, how’s it going? It’s been a while and i haven’t posted anything here. But i never stopped learning anatomy. Inspired by Ryan Kingslien and a lot of awesome works that i can always find here at ZBC. Thank you all for the inspiration!:+1:

My goal now is to learn all the bones and muscules of human skeleton. Good way to learn it is to create an ecorche. So, i sculpted an entire skeleton and decided that it might be a good time to take a break and do some renders. I decided to use Keyshot, which is really amazing in my opinion!
Sculpting the skeleton was really fun and i learned a lot at the same time!

So, i hope you guys gonna like it:

And some pose if you don’t mind ;):

Two skeletons in one day. Glad to see that you got better proportions on the skull from your previous post.

Thanks, Monstermaker! Really there are two skeletons today. We posted our works almost at the same time(mine was posted just 12 minutes later).
By the way, love your work on Schlitzie!:+1: Inspired me to read some info about this actor.
