Rotation issue - Newbie

Hi,

I’m new to Zbrush and have run into an issue with my rotate tool. If I place a cylinder in the canvas and rotate it left or right it doesn’t stay straight.

For example if i want to slice the cylinder in half it will look right after the slice but if i rotate the cylinder it has been sliced at an angle if that makes sense?

I can’t seem to find out how to spin the object on a fixed axis. I have done some googling but have had no luck (Maybe using the wrong search phrase!)

Can anyone help please?

Thanks

Pressing Shift as you rotate the model will snap it to the nearest axial plane.

Thank you, that has helped a lot.

Is there a way that once it has snapped to an Axis that it will only move on that axis…For example if it snaps to the X Axis it will only rotate on that axis?

Thanks!

Transform, deselect XYZ then enable desired axis. Changing views helps. I posted some stuff that might be useful. Happy ZBrushing

Thanks Doug! I’ll check it out!

The only way would be in the “Tool > Deformation” palette using the “Rotate” slider. Use the axis selection on the slider. You have to be careful though because you can screw up the snap to orthographic views when using the Shift key and it would be hard to get positioning right again. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend using it for your purpose if you are new to ZBrush . It’s meant more for final positioning of subtools.
