Rotating Masks?

Is there a way to rotate a mask? I select outside of the mesh and drag a box roughly around the area i want to paint on my mesh but I want the mask on a 45 degree angle. Is it possible? In Mudbox you can easily do this with a stencil. My project is coming along off of Mudbox into Zbrush and I can honestly say… as simple as Mudbox is, Zbrush has just far superior tools (plus it handles larger meshes better). I can’t wait to post when it’s done so I can get comments (I’m looking forward to the suggestive ones).

Thanks in advance.

You can:

  1. Select a different masking brush that may be more applicable, like the masking lasso, or mask curve brush to apply the mask as a curve that can be drawn out at any angle. To do this, hold down Ctrl when making a brush selection to see the available masking brushes.

  2. You can select the masking brush (By holding down CTRL), and assign a shaped alpha to it, then change the stroke type to “dragrect”. This will allow you to draw out the mask as the alpha shape, rotating as you do.

  3. You can use the Stencil feature to position an alpha as you like, and have it define what will be affected by your brush strokes.

Remember that any polypainting can be converted to a mask in the Tool>Mask>Mask By Color menu. So paint the mask as color using any of the painting tools in Zbrush, like Projection master, or Spotlight, and convert it to masking.

Thanks for your input I will try all three options and post what worked best
