Rotating a head mesh and lose the details?

Hi,

I sculpted a head and I have pores layers. I turned off the layers and if I rotate the head 90 degree then if I activate again the layers I total lost the pores deails.
I have the same problem many years long.
Is this normal
???

Hi @illusionist

I don’t work with this feature often, so it’s possible someone else may have a tip for a better workflow, but as a general 3d rule it’s better to work on detail before posing or rotating your mesh.

Here’s what’s probably happening. You have generated detail based on one position of your mesh, displacing it more or less in the direction of the viewer. However, you then rotated the original position of your mesh in the worldspace, so now when that detail layer is applied it still displaces the points in the original direction, but the mesh is facing 90 degrees to it now, resulting in a flattening of that detail. You would generally want to bake that detail before making that change.
